PUBLIC Journal

PUBLIC Journal provides an unprecedented platform for the expanding Public Interest Design movement; where the world of architecture intersects the voices of activism, exposing a determination to provide good design for those that need it most, but most often do not get it.

PUBLIC is put together by an impassioned group of humanitarians in the fields of architecture, environmental design, and public policy change who are actively working to provide built projects to disadvantaged communities throughout the globe.

PUBLIC features thought-provoking editorials and exceptional photography of meaningful projects that are improving lives. Our readers get insight into the social, political, and cultural issues that surround this burgeoning movement. PUBLIC tells stories of like-minded individuals attempting to make a difference and celebrates their challenges and successes, one project at a time. Today’s growing Public Interest Design movement deserves to be exposed and archived.

Matthew Linden, CA G.C. // Founder & Publisher

For 20 years Matthew has had his hand in every aspect of the design+build process, creating beautiful and interesting spaces for people to call home. While this has had its rewards, it has become increasingly obvious to him that there is important work to be done that his experience and expertise can lend a hand with. Matthew's company, ConsciousBuild, Inc looks to make a lasting difference with the people who are in the most need of thoughtfully designed and well-built shelter projects.

Jacqueline Devereaux, AIA, LEED AP // Managing Editor

Jacqueline L. Devereaux is an architect Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) which is an interdisciplinary firm specializing in delivering practical, innovative, and technically-sound solutions across all areas of new and existing construction. Jacqueline began managing PUBLIC Journal as a way to become more involved with the social and humanitarian side of the profession. With her technical background, Jacqueline hopes to have an influence in the Public-Interest-Design Movement ensuring that the buildings that are built are as technically successful as they are well-designed.

Not everyone has access to good design; Jacqueline’s intention is that PUBLIC Journal become a meeting place to make good design and designers more accessible to the PUBLIC regardless of the demographics of a person or community. Through PUBLIC Journal any reader should be able to engage in conversation as to what makes good design, how they can achieve it, who can help them reach their goals, and find out where good design is being implemented.
